The Off-Grid Build website was conceived back in March 2012 when I had the opportunity to purchase land in a remote, off-grid location. I decided to start researching about off-grid builds and thought that my research would help others. This is effectively my research scrapbook to find any and all information I can and share it with others.
The property wasn’t to be and after a couple of years, I stopped writing. I have returned with a new passion for sustainable living and the desire to do an Off-Grid build never left me. Now that technology, resources and more have become more readily available I decided to start writing again. I look forward to sharing what I find about off-grid builds with you.
I will focus on all aspects of building from services through to fixtures and anything in between. Most people wanting to go off the grid are looking for a simpler life with fewer overheads and the chance to truly own their own home. I’ll research all kinds of
Building off the grid introduces challenges you will not encounter when building in a cookie-cutter estate. So with that in mind, I aim to produce content and educate you about all the various aspects of an off-grid build.

Who am I?
My name is Jamie and I’m a software engineer by trade. I’ve worked in the IT world for my entire adult career. I have always been interested in architecture, sustainable living and self-reliance for as long as I can remember.
Like many, I dream of the day when I can build my house with my own hands. I’m currently living and working remotely in the massive Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. There are so many places in and around this region that offer the opportunity to build off-
If you have any topics or anything you’d like me to cover, are a manufacturer of products suitable for off-grid builds then please drop me a line.
In 2020, I’m working to publish more articles so that I can get a better idea of the kinds of technology and systems I will need when I get my eventual off-grid build going. I’m aiming to start my first off-grid build by next year and help others do the same. There are so many ways that we can build off the grid depending on a range of factors so stay tuned for more on that.
Monetizing the site
All the articles that I publish on this site take a considerable amount of time to research and write. I will be monetizing this site with a focus on writing reviews for products and services for various reasons. My eventual aim is to have an online store that allows you to purchase products that can help in your off-grid build.
This will be done with a combination of affiliate links, sponsored posts (if I believe in the product and its good) and the store I mentioned above. I’d also like to be able to publish a book once I have everything required to do a complete off-grid build. We shall see how my plans go.
